Self Realization

Self realization - the development or fulfillment of one's potential.

And so begins the documentation of my personal quest for self realization.  The question...why now?  This is question with a multitude of answers.  The base answer, however, is this - I have lived much of my 33 years on this earth saying no.  No to trying new things, no to enjoying time with friends, no to making new friends, and so on.  Over the last few months, this realization has hit me hard, and I realize I need to change some things...or I'll have the same regrets about my adult life as I have about my college years.  I suppose I'll delve into that in a future posting...

Who am I?  I'm a husband, a son, a hard worker, a college graduate, and someone with a burning need to help people and prove that I can meet and in fact rise above any expectation that's placed in front of me.  I am an individual who wants to lead as rich and full a life as I possibly can.  One of my most incredible experiences was five days spent in Amsterdam in 2010.  More than anything else, this proved to me that when I say "yes" I can expand my opportunities for enjoyment and fulfillment.  Of course, in Amsterdam...there are many ways to do that.  This is why I'll be returning there in September with my bride.  I cannot wait to settle back in a chair in the middle of the city, enjoy some of the local pleasures, and be thankful that I've had the opportunity to come back to a place that makes me so immensely relaxed and happy.

With that said...I am determined to find ways to be more and more fulfilled in my everyday life.  I am determined that there is more to life than wake up, go to work, come home, have dinner, watch TV, and sleep.  I've fallen into that rut far too easily...and now is the time to extricate myself and live the life I know I should.  I have the comfort of knowing that I'll have my best friend, my wife, with me for the long haul.  Unless I tease her too much...terrible habit.

And so begins the journey.
